Who can register to vote? 

You must be 18 years or older (a person who is otherwise qualified may preregister on or after that person's 16th birthday and may vote in any election occurring on or after that person's 18th birthday); You must be an American citizen; You must be a permanent resident of Duval County. There is no specific time requirement to live in Duval County to be considered a permanent resident.

Who cannot register to vote?

Anyone who does not meet the requirements for registration; Anyone declared mentally incompetent; Anyone convicted of a felony that has not had his/her civil rights restored; Any non-US citizen residing in the United States. 

Convicted Felon Notice of Right to Request an Advisory Opinion: 

Pursuant to recent federal Court Order entered on May 24, 2020, relating to restoration of rights for convicted felons, convicted felons have the right to request an advisory opinion using the court form or other similar form from the Division of Elections, as specifically pertaining to the following:

◾The amount of any fine or restitution that must be paid to make the requesting person eligible to vote, and/or
◾The person's ability or inability to the fine or restitution

How do I register to vote?  

Registering to vote is a right. It is available to all persons that meet the requirements. You may register in person Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 105 East Monroe Street.  You may also complete a voter registration application at any branch of the Jacksonville Public Library.  For additional locations, registration forms or information on voter registration, call (904) 255-8683. If you need more information regarding the closest agency, or to obtain a form by mail, contact our office any weekday between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM, at (904) 255-8683. 

You may also register to vote anytime you are applying for or renewing:

•A Florida Driver License

•A Duval County Public Library Card

•Benefits at State public assistance agencies

•Services at agencies that provide services to disabled persons

•Armed Forces Recruiting Offices.

What are the Voter Registration Deadlines (Book Closings)?

Voters must be registered at least 29 days before an election to vote in that election.

Are there deadlines at registration sites?

At certain locations applications will be kept and delivered to the Elections Department. Applications must be turned in at the registration site at least 29 days before an election in order to meet the book closing deadline.

What are the Voter Registration Deadlines by Mail?

Applications must be postmarked at least 29 days before an election, to vote in that election. Applications which are delivered to the Elections Department at least 29 days in advance of the election satisfy the book closing deadline.

What information must be provided on the application for the registration application to be valid?

Name, Date of Birth, Address of Legal Residence (address where you live), last four digits of Social Security number or Driver License or Florida ID number and signature. Also, the blocks on the top row of the application must be checked indicating that you are a U.S. citizen; not a convicted felon, or if you are, your voting rights have been restored, and you have not been judged to be mentally incapacitated, or if you have, your competency has been restored.

How do I register if I do not have a permanent address?

Fill in your temporary address and notify the Supervisor of Elections office when your address becomes permanent. If you no longer maintain or do not plan to have a permanent address in Duval County, but intend to remain a resident of this county, you may request assignment to the precinct of the main office of the Supervisor of Elections. What happens if I do not make an entry in the party affiliation section of the application?

If you leave this section blank you will be registered no party affiliation.  Florida is a "closed primary state." If you wish to be eligible to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary elections in Florida, you must be registered with that political party.

What if I cannot sign my name on the application?

Place your mark or an "X" in the signature box. 

Do I have to re-register to vote before each election?

No

Do I have to register somewhere else for city elections?

No, there is one central voter roll in each county that is used for all city, county, state and national elections. You must live within the political boundaries of the city to vote in city elections.

After completing a voter registration application, when will I receive my voter information card?

Normally, within 7 to 10 working days after the application is received by the Supervisor of Elections office.

If I am already registered to vote in Florida, how do I change my address?

A voter may change their address by using the Florida online voter registration application., by telephone, mail, or in person. You will need to provide us with your full name, the new address, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number, your Florida driver license number, or your Florida identification card number, whichever may be verified in the supervisor’s records.

What do I do if I have a change in name or party affiliation?

A change in name or party affiliation requires a completed Florida Voter Registration Application.

I have moved recently; will my polling place change?

If your new address is in a different precinct, you will have a new polling place. You MUST change your address with the Supervisor of Elections office, and they will provide a voter information card indicating the current precinct and polling place.

Can I register to vote by mail? 

Yes. If you register by mail and you are a first-time voter in the State and you have not been issued a Florida driver's license number, Florida I.D. number, or a Social Security number you are required to provide additional identification.
